No-exam life insurance

Fast-track underwriting: who gets it, how the process works, and what happens if you don't qualify.

Many carriers now provide expedited underwriting: for people in certain age and benefit ranges, approval comes from your application, medical history records, driving record and other information, without a physical exam. Some approvals happen within 24 hours. Our quotes tell you for each product whether an exam is required, might be, or isn't.

What it changes

No exam doesn't mean no underwriting. Responses go through verification, and policies built on untrue information can be voided in the first 24 months. The carrier may request exam or lab results if something needs checking; you can opt out at that time.

Who tends to qualify

Often age 60 or under, applying for coverage up to the carrier's limit, with no significant health issues and tobacco-free for a year or more. Some carriers take recent medical lab work from your doctor instead of requiring an exam.

An exam, when needed, usually takes 20 to 30 minutes—done by a medical professional at your Oxnard-area home or workplace, at no cost. For healthy candidates, test results can sometimes raise your rate category, making an exam actually helpful.
